Wargaming The English Civil War
Introduction
The English Civil War or ECW is a real passion of mine, it is a period of history that I became familiar with when I was a small boy at primary school (many years ago) during a history project about Roundheads and Cavaliers. The area where I lived was a stones throw from such places as Moseley Old Hall and Boscobel House and school trips to these places where mandatory back then, and the rich history associated with King Charles escape from Cromwell was an amazing subject to learn about. Eventually when I 'discovered' wargaming thanks to watching the film 'Callan' back in 1980 I soon set about looking for an army to collect and quite naturally this led me to the ECW period and a 15mm Minifigs army and the rest was history.
Obviously the purpose is not to reminisce about the past 35 years of my wargaming efforts with the ECW period so I will get into the nitty gritty of wargaming this period from a point of view of my experience in different scales and of course different figure manufacturers. Added to this I will discuss painting, basing, model making, figure scales and rules that I have come across and a few more that I have yet to try so that you hopefully get an informed opinion about wargaming this period. There is no sales pitch for any particular product, figures or rule set and I will be as objective as I possibly can be and I will state my own preferences where this may matter.
Welcome to a new feature of my website and one that I hope will prove very useful to anyone who wishes to wargame the English Civil War period. This will be an ongoing feature and as such it will be added to on a regular basis as time permits and of course as I undertake and finish new projects that are associated with the period. There will be guides and photo's added as I continue my quest to build my own armies as well as reviews of figures, rules and anything else that is relevant to English Civil War gaming.
